Need Help Playing Golf? Try These Tips

May 6th, 2012

The game of golf is a centuries old sport that is played by those who want to relax with family and friends, as well as those who want to network with associates and bosses on the course. If you need some tips on your game then keep reading for valuable advice.

Adopt a proper position over the golf ball. Stand approximately 20 to 24 inches away from the ball. Make sure that your shoulder is facing the target. Ensure that your left foot is directly underneath your left shoulder. Remember to flex your knees, as this will help you to shift your weight with ease.

When you are on the green and have to remove the flag stick be sure to not throw it down. The act of throwing it down can damage the surface of the green. When you take out the flagstick put it down gently and make sure that it is near the edge of the green and not the cup.

Don’t make the newbie mistake of buying a whole set of golf clubs. When you first start out, you don’t need fourteen golf clubs. Instead, get a half-set. This will give you focused choices of the most important clubs. When you have become proficient, you will understand how to purchase additional clubs individually to meet your needs and round out your set.

A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to make sure that you always keep an eye on your golf clubs while at the course. This is important because due to the value of many golf clubs, somebody else probably already has their eye on them and might take them at their first chance.

If you have trouble with balls landing in bunkers, stop trying to avoid them. Just embrace the fact that you sometimes wind up in there. Look at the silver lining in the fact that bunkers are usually close to greens, and it means you’re closer to the hole. If you are good at landing at bunkers, get equally good at getting out of them. It can be a counter-intuitive way to get to the green in two or three strokes, but even if your opponents are laughing at your methods, they can’t laugh at your scores.

To hit a sand shot you should try to take a shallow cut of sand about ten inches long rather than creating an explosion of sand right at the ball. This method of sand shot will give you the best chance of getting your ball out of shallow to mid-range bunkers.

Purchase your golf shoes at a store that also sells golf clubs or take a couple of clubs with you. By doing this, you can practice your swing while wearing the shoes and see how they feel throughout your swing. This is one of the big advantages of buying your golf shoes in person rather than online or by mail.

You can use the tips that were presented here to improve your game regardless of who you are playing with. Use this article as a stepping stone in lowering your score to make yourself feel better, impress your friends and win over your work buddies, colleagues or even your boss.

Australian National Maritime Museum – Sydney Hotels

March 26th, 2012

sydney hotels - National Maritime MuseumOriginal Article by Sydney Hotels:  Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) holds the proof of Australia’s long relationship with sea. It is packed to the hilt with interesting things to see and do. This is no wonder, as Australia is an island with long coastal line and more than 90% of European settlers who came to Australia lived within 60km from the seashore.

The museum building itself is fascinating. It is a smaller version of the Sydney Opera House with its sail motif. The architecture of the building perfectly suits the display inside.

The museum is made up of six galleries and those displayed outside. It has figureheads, brass hardware, model ships, antique racing yachts and the famous Spirit of Australia. The jet-propelled Spirit of Australia was the world record holder for water speed for going on for 30 years. Another star attraction here is the Olympic Games gold medal winner, the double-scull Barcelona.

The USA Gallery is a recent addition to this wonderful museum. It houses maritime artifacts from Smithsonian and other places in the United States.

The outdoor section of the museum has many historically important vessels docked at the wharf close to the museum. Among these, the war veterans like the WWII Warship and the Royal Australian Navy Warship, the HMAS Vampire are the most prominent. The submarines on display are the 1968 Oberon Class submarine and the 1917 lightship, Carpentaria. The James Craig, a merchant ship, built in 1874 is also exhibited here.

Some of the displays are not original, but no less enchanting. Discovery, the ship of James Cook is re-created here for the benefit of visitors. It sailed around the world for 11 years and has come back to the museum recently. Another ship that came back recently after undertaking a journey to Melbourne, is Endeavour.

Also on display are the convict ships that sailed from Britain to Australia. The other exhibits are Australia’s first submarine that fought in the WWI at Gallipoli, a Vietnamese boat that carried passengers to Australia and an 1888 cutter boat.

Some of the ships are open to visitors. The James Craig is one such exhibit. This iron-hulled, square-rigger was meticulously restored over the last two decades. It occasionally sails the harbor.
